I began learning massage 30 years ago and studied under various teachers, among them the legend in Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage Margaret Machado, or Auntie Margaret, as most know her.

Twenty-four years ago I became state licensed to do massage in Hawaii after studying with Auntie Margaret and opened a private practice on Maui. Another technique I have studied extensively is Structural Integration or Realignment Therapy, as I like to call it, at The Pacific Center for Awareness and Bodywork.

Lomi Lomi is a very soothing massage that allows one to melt in deep relaxation. The Hawaiians have a reputation of doing things well; so it is not surprising that their massage is one of the most delicious and pleasurable massages in the world. For example, the hula is one of the most beautiful dances known to man. Lomi Lomi is very much like a graceful dance. Truly, Lomi Lomi is a special treat that both visitors and Islanders seek.

Structural Realignment Therapy is a highly advanced form of massage that targets not only the muscles, but also works with the connective tissue, or fascia, in a very special way. Through a scientific process developed by Ida Rolf P.H.D., the connective tissue is reshaped to allow the posture of the body to become more normalized. This has the potential to correct severe and persistent problems affecting the body due to the spine not being straight.

I have seen many amazing changes occur while doing structural therapy, both in the people I have massaged, and in myself. Among these are testimonials of pain eradication. Several people, who suffer with a hip alignment problem in which their legs appear to be different in length, have experienced the joy of having their hips become balanced resulting in their legs becoming balanced and even as well. This was a permanent change, and not simply short term post-massage.

One gal with severe scoliosis was able to breathe normally after being unable to take a deep breath for a long time. This also was a permanent change after one massage. I have seen scoliosis healed on several occasions. Quotes from a few of my clients’ post-session include: “I feel lighter, looser and very relaxed,” “the pain in my lower back is completely gone!” and “there is no more pain in my shoulder and neck.” A phone call three days after an appointment: “I am so amazed! I wake up in the morning and expect my normal pain to be there and it’s not! I used to be in constant pain and it’s completely gone; it’s a miracle!” Other comments: ”I can breath deeper; I feel like I can finally get a normal breath of air into my lungs.” ”My digestion completely changed after my last massage. I had been constipated but, after the massage, my system flushed out for days ‘til I felt totally clear and normal.”

It is my understanding that TRUE healing only comes from God. He has blessed me with words of wisdom and anointed my hands to carry out His healing through them. I am honored to be able to serve my brethren in this way.

Spiritual counseling is another way He has used me as His handmaiden for healing. I have been engaged in spiritual counseling for about 20 years using the Bible as my manual.

From my understandings of the principles of healing outlined in Scripture, we can deal with hurts, learn how to forgive and release our pain to God. Many times, massage sessions will overlap and become counseling sessions. I believe in healing the whole person and not just symptoms of “dis-ease”. Much of one’s physical maladies are rooted in one’s mind, emotions, will and spirit.
